The fast pace of today's world can be challenging for modern busy mums who try to balance everything on their plate. When it becomes a little overwhelming, good mums just needs to keep their wits about them and remember that they can do it all. Many mums have shared what they learned through years of experience and have a lot of great advice to offer.

One important parenting tip that most mums agree on is that it is important not to spoil children. Some parents believe that they should give their children everything they want if they can afford it. This may make the child happy for the moment and a busy mum may be tempted to just give them what they want to quiet them down. However, in the long run, this will create problems when the child develops a sense of entitlement and melts down the first time they hear "no."

A busy mum who holds a job while raising her family does not have time to cook an elaborate meal each night. However, that does not mean that her family's nutrition needs to suffer. A simple dinner like spaghetti and meatballs can be made healthier by using whole wheat pasta. Instead of spending extra time baking sweets for desert, simply cut up some fruit for an easier and healthier option.

All parents want to spend time playing with their children, but play often falls by the wayside when it comes time to focus on education. A good mum can combine the two by playing games with her children that are both educational and fun. There are many electronic read aloud books that help children practice phonics while enjoying a story with their mum. It is also possible to adapt games and make them educational, such as playing "I Spy" and having children spell what they see.

Being a good mum is difficult enough without the added responsibility of being a good wife. Many couples find that the spark goes out of the relationship once they have children, but this does not need to be the case. Even the most devoted parents need time away from their children every now and then. Parents should not be afraid to leave the kids with a babysitter for the evening and rekindle the flame from their childless years.

After devoting so much energy to being the perfect mum and wife, every woman needs to treat herself occasionally. Any mum is sure to burn out if she is constantly worrying about everyone else and not taking time for herself. Once a month, the kids can spend a few hours with daddy while mum gets her hair done or takes a quiet bubble bath.

Today's fast paced world creates unique challenges for modern busy mums. However, good mums know that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to by staying balanced and focused. Organization and patience make it possible for any woman to be the perfect mum and wife.

An early alcoholic drink, rum has been close to since ancient times. Nothing if not old, it is practically forced to walk having a (sugar) cane. Though it wasn't first distilled in plantations until the 17th century, rum is believed to have existed thousands of years prior in the form of brew, a drink made by the Malay individuals. In the 14th century, Marco Polo (the explorer, not the swimming pool game) wrote about a wine made of sugar, giving further credence to the belief that rum was close to prior to the 1600's. Understand more about rum from Jamaica, in case you want to enjoy this item.

When the first distillation of rum began, it began in the Caribbean when plantation slaves realized the molasses, left over from sugar refinement, could be turned into alcohol. This alcohol, nevertheless, was not well received...at least not at very first. Like the beginning of most points, the beginning of rum was a little shaky and the spirit was dispirited to understand that it was initially thought to be a terrible tasting liquor.

Once the Caribbean set the rum ball in motion, it quickly spread towards the American Colonies. In 1664, the very first distillery for rum was set up in what is now Staten Island; a distillery in Boston quickly followed.

New England had a special penchant for producing rum; not only was the rum industry their most profitable industry, but the rum they produced was considered to be of higher high quality than all others.

An alcoholic drink determined to have a location in history - even the dark parts of history - rum was involved within the slave trade, as slaves, molasses, and rum had been part of the triangular trade. When this trade was interrupted simply because of the 1764 Sugar Act, an additional straw was thrown on the American Colonists back. Thus, bottles of rum can often be overhead bragging to bottles of wine and bottles of whiskey that they had been the reason for the American Revolution.

More than any other alcoholic drink, rum was associated with pirates (yo ho ho and a bottle of rum, anybody?). This initially began when English privateers began trading it. As some of these men eventually became pirates (aim high, kids), they carried with them their liking of rum. Pieces of literature that coupled rum and piracy perpetuated this notion.

Rum was also related to the British Royal Navy, an association that started in 1655 when Jamaica was captured by British sailors. Once ashore, rum was so available that the seamen began drinking it instead of the brandy to which they had been accustomed.

The refinement of rum started within the place it all began: the Caribbean. Prior to the late 1800's, rums were dark and heavy. The Spanish Royal Development Board set out to make rum more appealing towards the general public and offered a reward for anybody who could improve its quality. And so enter Don Facundo Bacardi Masso.

After moving to Cuba from Spain in 1843, Masso began to refine his rum methods. He improved distillation, filtering, and aging in casks made of American oak. This all worked together to create a rum that was light and smooth, a spirit that today we have come to love, to drink, and one that makes our senses rumble.

Rum is considered to be the world's oldest distilled spirit and is created throughout the Caribbean. On Jamaica, Appleton Rum Estate has been distilling rum from sugar can for more than 200 many years and is the island's most popular drink. Having a really sweet flavor rum is often utilized to make refreshing fruit punches and coconut cocktails.

Despite the ongoing recession we have today, a brave projection of a 2011 sales for American chocolates reached about $18 million. Apparently, the dwindling marketplace has not affected the appetite of buyers when it comes to these delicate sweets. Chocolate lovers owe it to the history of chocolates. Chocolates have been pre-recorded and its recognition was never as soon as questioned. In truth, if the numbers are right, people are finding more methods to make use of chocolate other than satisfy fantastic craving for the tempting.

Food for the Gods

Thank God for chocolates! As a chocolate lover, my curiosity was piqued when I had a bite of the macadamia chocolates that I truly adore! Because then I knew that chocolates have originated from the Amazon were the very first cocoas were discovered in 2000 BC. Largely used by the Maya Culture, the word chocolate came from xocoatl meaning bitter water. The Mayas love for cocoa was imprinted in background thru the wood carvings discovered dating all the way back to about 300AD, showing pictures of cocoa pods. The Mayan territory expanded in 600AD and they took their cocoa with them to the northern parts of South America until their wanderings took them to the Guatemalan shores. This area became birthing soil to big cocoa plantations where the pods are often introduced as holy matters in rituals. They think cocoa to be food exclusive for the consumption of gods.

Dark Waters in Gold Goblets

The hot xocoatl, a dark drink that's fairly sweet to the taste, was regarded by Aztecs and Mayans to become a health sustaining drink and used it for many medicinal purposes. They also considered that drinking the dark juice or eating the fruits would bring them wisdom. Even then, the natives considered in xocoatl's nourishing powers. Their leaders drank gallons of dark chocolate dyed in red. Those were served in gold goblets.

The Bean Pay Ups

Due to its recognition and significance, the cocoa beans even became a form of currency among Mayans and Aztecs. They used cocoa beans to sell, trade and purchase commodities during the earlier times.

In 1492, Columbus presented King Ferdinand and his Queen with cocoas upon his return but very little attention was provided to them and even on his journey in search for spices in India, Columbus didn't understand the great possible of the chocolate. Otherwise, he could are already the one who discovered and announced the immense potential of such sweets.

And so more and more people have begun using the sweet chocolates as an important currency signifying wealth depending on the vastness of plantations owned. In fact, an explorer through the name of Hernando de Oviedo y Valdez claimed to have bought slaves and prostitutes using cocoa pods.

And in 1519, some parts of Mexico were eventually conquered by Hernando Cortez who was fascinated by xocoatl more for its currency value than its taste. At that time, the taste of the chocolates was a little bit bitter sweet and spicy. Leaning further that cultivating the cocoa tree is certainly a great company, he established several plantations thereby cultivating money for Spain.

Really, I can never imagine a world without having these fairly sweet fanciful delicacies in my life. Like a chocolate lover, I have usually had the yearning to discover new kinds of chocolates each day if possible. May they be regular or ordinary chocolates, gourmet chocolates or home-made but exceptionally delectable chocolates, my adore and passion for them will usually be there!

Crack an egg into a cup, check and tip into boiling water. Reduce the heat. Gather the white around the unbroken yolk with a spoon and continue to simmer for another 3-4 mins. Lift out with a draining spoon and serve on warm buttered toast.

Scrambling: beat the eggs well; add salt, pepper to taste and a dash of milk. Melt enough butter to cover the bottom of a shallow pan. Heat the eggs slowly, stirring constantly. Cook in a basin floating on boiling water, if you'd rather. Serve when nearly completely set, in about 5 minutes.

Fried: Melt enough butter to easily cover the bottom of the shallow pan. Tip egg in gently and gather the whites around the yolks. When the white has solidified, baste the yolk to taste and remove whole with a draining spoon.

Baked Eggs: lightly grease an oven-proof dish and pour the egg(s) gently into it. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and butter to taste. Bake in a moderate oven and serve in the same bowl after the whites have set to your liking.

Omelettes: buy a pan and keep it just for omelettes! The base should be smooth and clean. Allow two eggs per serving; whip lightly and add salt and pepper to taste. Melt enough butter to cover the bottom of a frying pan. When the butter is fairly hot, gently tip in the beaten eggs; as it sets, lift the handle and draw the set mixture up towards the handle, allowing the liquid egg to run down onto the hot pan. When all the liquid has set, tilt the pan forward and roll the omelette over. Serve straight away on a hot plate. The omelette can be filled with almost anything, before being rolled over.

Pouring Custard: beat 2-3 eggs for every one pint of milk lightly. Heat the milk and pour gradually over the eggs; add sugar and flavouring to taste; cook in a double pan or jug and hot water until the required consistency has been achieved. If it is not to be served immediately, pour a thin layer of water onto it to prevent a skin forming.

Baked Custard: start as above but then transfer the custard into a lightly greased shallow dish; sprinkle sparsely with nutmeg and place the dish in water to halfway up its sides. Cook at 350 F for 35-45 minutes; you can test its solidity by inserting a knife, which should be clean on removal.

Steamed Custard: as above, but cook in a steamer or pan of boiling water. Cooking time about the same.

Custard Tarts: pour a little pouring custard into each unbaked pastry case and bake in the oven for around 40-50 minutes. A little strawberry jam can be put at the bottom of the pastry case first, if preferred.

Can you truly get addicted to chocolates?

Chocoholics Anonymous hasn't been born yet but a lot clamor about chocolate addiction has been talked about in recent years. There seems to be a heightened need for people to draw the line between chocolate lovers and chocolate addicts or chocoholics as they call themselves. Scientists have even isolated the outcomes of the likened impact of chocolates to the marijuana, a prohibited drug that causes euphoria or a sense of well being but carries the dangerous chemical known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

It may be said that food cravings, for example for chocolates, are frequently caused by emotions. Sudden shift from becoming happy to a less relaxed state can prompt the mind to look for food that could alleviate the anxiety. This kind of is evident in people who have seasonal affective disorder or ladies who've premenstrual syndrome.

Women & Chocolate Addiction

Did you know ladies are more associated with chocolate addiction than men? If you will take a look at it, women frequently turn to these sweet temptations during heightened emotional stress. That is why it is a well known fact that chocolates carry uppers such as caffeine that elevate the blood pressure and quicken the breath thereby giving the person a feeling of high.

Many women experience food cravings on a monthly basis in close reference to their menstruation. Changes in hormonal levels affect the mood and consequently dictate the person to crave for certain type of foods which in the case of most ladies, the chocolates.

Most women claim that they get immense satisfaction upon eating chocolates which merely started as a habit. It just totally makes sense since metabolized sugar produces serotonin in the body, a chemical responsible to the feeling of elation. And who wouldn't want to feel happy, in the first place!

Addictive Responses to Chocolates Defined

Recent studies made in Europe found that allowing respondents to eat liberal amounts of chocolates, and cutting them back from eating the same resulted to the people salivating at the sight of chocolates. They felt anxious, deprived and depressed.

Another study conducted at Princeton showed rats that were fed with sugar experienced anxiety once sugar was removed from their diets. Their symptoms were like that of nicotine addicts made to quit cold turkey - shaking and their teeth chattering.

However, despite test results, researchers still believe that although the symptoms are similar, chocoholics are not addicts. There is no true chocolate addiction, as there is no definite chemical found in chocolates that are addictive. What the subjects are experiencing are anxieties based on breaking the habit of eating chocolates or that habits formed by eating something sweet when changes in moods occur.

But when do we say enough of chocolate is enough?

If you are unsure whether you are eating too much chocolate and may hamper your health, read and answer the following questions:

1.	Do you usually buy loads of chocolates and keep them in stock at home?

2.	Do you have more chocolate products than fruits and vegetables in your refrigerator?

3.	Do you consume more than 1 pound of chocolate every month?

4.	Do you have withdrawal symptoms for example shaking, anxiety, restlessness, sweating and teeth chattering?

5.	Can you not last a day without eating chocolate?

If you answered YES to most of these questions then you are undoubtedly in trouble. Becoming a chocolate lover is not bad, but you also have to watch out for your health! As we say, an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure!
