The Mousetrap

The Mousetrap is the longest running show on the West End, and has delighted audiences since it first opened in 1952 with theatre tickets selling continuously for over 50 years. Agatha Christie’s top selling murder mystery, which is famed for it’s notoriously well kept secret ending, plays at the St Martins theatre, with theatre tickets still available for it.

The Mousetrap originated as a radio play called Three Blind Mice, which aired in honour of Queen Mary in May 1947. When the play came to the West End it had to be renamed, since there already existed a play by Emily Littler called Three Blind Mice. Anthony Hicks, Agatha Christie’s son-in-law, suggested ‘The Mousetrap’ in reference to a line in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

The Mousetrap first premiered upon the stage at the Theatre Royal Nottingham in October 1962, directed by Peter Cotes. It visited several regional theatres before coming to the New Ambassadors Theatre in London’s West End in November. In 1974 it transferred next door to the St Martins Theatre, where David Turner has directed the show for many years.

Richard Attenborough was amongst the original West End cast, playing Detective Sergeant Trotter alongside wife Sheila Sim in the role of Mollie Ralston. The Mousetrap takes place at Monkswell Manor, where Mollie and Giles Ralston, a young couple, have recently converted the property into a new hotel. The blustering weather conditions leave the Ralstons snowed in alongside their guest, a traveller, when Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives upon skis warning of the imminent arrival of a murderer from London. Soon Mrs Boyle turns up dead, and they realise that the murderer is already in their midst. Their attention swiftly turns to the odd eccentric Christopher Wren, however it soon becomes clear that any one of them could be guilty.

Again and again, he encounters the victims he left behind before going to jail and being transferred to treatment. Thus, always returning Alex back to a time in the past. Something, not a lot of people enjoy, even those who have not been involved in crimes against those with whom relationships have ended.

To this end, there are a lot of valuable lessons which can be learn from A Clockwork Orange about crime, gangs and Karma, all of which play a vital role in the universal laws of reality. For, whether one believes in Karma or not, generally one gets back the energy one gives out. To this end, most individuals have good and bad days. Resident Evil Movie Preview

The new age zombie have come a long way from their Afro-Caribbean origins of Haiti and Africa. It all started with George A. Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead. The success of this movie prompted the modern pop culture version of zombies and recently a slew of zombie movies and video games. Engineered viruses have replaced voodoo in our post apocalyptic zombie filles futures and the modern day zombie would give Usain Bolt a run for his money.

I feel zombie films aren't what they use to be as they just aren't as scary anymore. Zombies basically have been beaten to death. Yes I did notice the pun. There has been a little variation in all fairness. Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later had the whole sprinting zombies, I Am Legend and 28 weeks later observed the psychological effects of zombies on the survivors, Quarantine and Diary of the Dead tried the whole point of view mockumentary approach. Even then though I feel zombies have past their prime. Yet another pun.

Zombie video games seemed like the natural progression. There is nothing like killing hordes of zombies with sub-machine guns and shot guns after a long day to blow off some steam. Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, Plants vs Zombies and the ever popular Resident Evil is like cheap therapy. That's why I'm glad the film version of Resident Evil turned out as well as it did. The first Resident Evil has got the be my most favourite zombie movie. Resident Evil's zombies also take it one step further with mutations that make zombies from other movies look like adorable little chiwawas. The kind Paris Hilton keeps in her handbag.

The newest Resident Evil: Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich with new girl Ali Larter is set for release on September 10, 2010 and is the 4th film of the movie franchise. A new element has been added to bring zombies to the next level. Be prepared for blood splatter and un-dead body parts flying in your face as this was shot using James's Cameron' s 3D Fusion Camera System. The same used in Avatar and a few other 3D movies.

The movie previews gives you a little taste as to what's in store. The ugliest zombies, awesome fight scenes and hopefully a conclusion to the story. Happy ending maybe? or is that asking for too much? How happy can the ending be anyway right? Everybody's dead and the ones that are still around won't be able to keep up a decent dinner conversation. So will 3D inject new life into the un-dead? Sorry couldn't resist. Well it should at least keep it different for a little while and it won't be just another zombie movie. I'm hoping in the near future cinemas will take it to the next level and install water sprays and squirt you when it's a particularly bloody scene or like leg grabbers to grab you when the zombies are chasing. I'd so go to that cinema. Until then though its sexy chicks killing the living dead in 3D this September.
